Automotive suppliers reacted with shock and dismay in November when DaimlerChrysler AG demanded an across-the-board 5 percent price cut effective Jan. 1. Now suppliers are lining up to tell the automaker to forget it. ``I don't think it's fair or appropriate for DaimlerChrysler to arbitrarily institute a 5 percent price cut,'' said newly appointed Federal-Mogul Corp.
CEO Frank Macher. ``It's against the spirit of partnership. DaimlerChrysler needs to work with its suppliers to reduce its costs.'' Will Federal-Mogul give the price cut? ``No,'' said Macher, and he's not alone.
