Shares of Farmington Hills-based Compuware Corp. (Nasdaq: CPWR) reached a six-month high last Thursday, selling for $13.50, after IBM reported higher-than-expected demand for its mainframe computers. Compuware's competitors in the mainframe software business, BMC Software Inc. (Nasdaq: BMCS) and Computer Associates Inc.

(NYSE: CA), also saw their stock prices improve. Compuware and Computer Associates dropped back Friday while investors waited for the companies' earnings reports.
