Wrong number; Oakland County sues PSC over area-code overlay.(Michigan Public Service Commission)(Brief Article)

LANSING - Oakland County is taking the Michigan Public Service Commission to court over a new, additional area code in the 248 area. It is the first legal challenge the PSC has faced over statewide changes bringing dual codes to some regions and splitting other areas into separate codes as available numbers run out.

Oakland County wants the Michigan Court of Appeals to reverse an April 17 PSC order that prescribes a 947 area code for all new numbers, such as for phones, fax machines and pagers. Ten-digit dialing would be needed to complete local calls.
