Business Education: Rating the biz-school rankings; Deans say surveys really don't measure quality.(Brief Article)

University rankings affect almost every aspect of a business program's health, from corporate recruiting to hiring professors. But there is simmering disagreement over the significance of the grades. The top four university ratings are by the Financial Times, U.S. News & World Report, BusinessWeek and The Wall Street Journal, which recently began publishing ratings.
Respondents, criteria and ratings differ for each. The surveys measure different things, said Helen Dashney, director of career services for Michigan State University's Eli Broad Graduate School of Management. ``It's almost a whole industry in itself.''
