Palace Sports & Entertainment was at the peak of its basketball sponsorship-selling season when terrorists hit New York City and Washington on Sept. 11. All selling of media and stadium advertising virtually ground to a halt in the crucial three weeks leading up to the season opener of the Detroit Pistons, said Tom Wilson, Palace Sports president and CEO.

Major concert acts, including an expected big payday with a third appearance this year by Janet Jackson, were canceled or put on hold. It's been a scramble ever since. ``It was like somebody turned off the spigot,'' Wilson said. The Sept. 11 attacks and the economic slowdown that they exacerbated changed the way Detroit does business in small and fundamental ways. Palace staff is working overtime...
