Automakers saving by using Covisint.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

When DaimlerChrysler AG needed highly specialized and expensive stamping dies, it turned to Southfield-based Covisint L.L.C. By using the automotive industry exchange last year, DaimlerChrysler says it saved 40 percent of the cost of stamping dies for a future vehicle program. It also led the automaker to use Covisint to purchase dies for a second vehicle program, saving 30 percent.
The company was able to purchase all the dies it needed for the two programs in three days. Had the automaker negotiated with die-makers through traditional means - by phone, fax or in person - the process could have taken as long as a month.
