Spending on computer-network security may increase as much as 43 percent nationally this year, creating a potential boon for local technology companies that saw business drop off sharply in 2001. Detroit area technology companies say they have been receiving a flood of calls from businesses reacting to the events of Sept.

11 and to the effects of viruses such as Code Red and Nimda that hit computer systems last summer.
