St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital has brought in a consultant to help management deal with an operating loss running at an annualized rate of $8 million to $9 million in the hospital's current fiscal year. Between 70 and 100 job cuts could be in the offing for the 230-bed hospital, said Eunice O'Loughlin, St.

John Health System vice president of corporate communications. But staffing recommendations won't be made until the end of March when the consultant's work is done, O'Loughlin said. She declined to identify the consultant. If job cuts are made, they probably can be achieved with minimal layoffs, she said.
