Race for research center down to WSU, Yale Wayne State University School of Medicine appears to be the front-runner in the competition for the National Institutes of Health Perinatal Research Branch and the expected $150 million in federal funding the center will attract over 10 years. U.S.

Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Detroit, who lobbied hard to keep Perinatal Research at WSU and The Detroit Medical Center, said she has heard unofficially that WSU is leading the pack.
