Budd Co. changes name, reorganizes to win business.(News)(new name is ThyssemKrupp Budd Co.)

Byline: Terry Kosdrosky More than a name has changed at ThyssenKrupp Budd Co., formerly known as The Budd Co. The Troy-based auto supplier began closing two plants earlier this year and sold its Phillips & Temro Industries business in early November. The shutdowns reduce its employee count by about 1,000.

The company also dealt with a difficult launch at a plant in Canada where some new equipment was used. The name change, a mandate from its German parent company, ThyssenKrupp AG, was effective Oct. 1. But the former Budd Co., founded in 1912, has cut costs and said it's in a better position now to win more business, especially from Honda, Toyota and Nissan.
