Comcast puts spotlight on local advertising.(News)(cable television broadcasting industry)

Byline: Jennette Smith New technology in place at Comcast Corp.'s advertising sales unit allows the company to sell more specific ads at the local level. Comcast recently renamed the Detroit Interconnect - an entity used to buy advertising on cable networks - Comcast Spotlight. It also launched products called Adtag and Adcopy.

Adtag allows an advertiser to add a local tag to a commercial directing potential customers in a given neighborhood to a contact. For example, a tag would identify a nearby car dealer, financial planner or other service. "It promotes the right insurance agent or doctor,'' said Rowland Trombley, regional vice president for Comcast Spotlight-Michigan. Spotlight also is the new name of all of Comcast's advertising sales businesses....
