Byline: Andrew Dietderich Hard Rock Cafe's linchpin to success centers on visual stimulation, but its latest Detroit attraction can't be seen at all - free wireless access to the Internet. Hard Rock Detroit became a "hot spot'' on March 10, meaning laptop users can tap the Net sans wire and cost.

The cafe is just one business trying to take advantage of a growing number of hot-spot users: Research firm Gartner Inc. predicts the number of such users will jump from 9.3 million in 2003 to 30 million by 2004.
