Officials: Ohio tax ruling won't affect Michigan.(News)(Brief Article)

Byline: Amy Lane, Robert Ankeny Michigan's single-business-tax incentive program isn't likely to be affected by a U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling Sept. 2 that an Ohio tax incentive plan is unconstitutional, said a state official and a tax lawyer. "It's a gigantic issue that would be devastating, but I don't think it applies in Michigan,'' said Carl Rashid of Butzel Long P.C.
The case in question involved $280 million in tax breaks given to DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group to build a $2.1 billion Jeep plant in Toledo. Rulings from the 6th Circuit Court are considered law in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Tennessee, and are looked at by other federal courts for guidance.
