UM gets $5M gift for creative-writing program University of Michigan alumna Helen Zell has made a $5 million gift to help elevate the university's creative writing program. Helen Zell is married to Sam Zell, founder and chairman of Chicago-based Equity Group Investments L.L.C. UM will spend half of the gift over the next five years to expand the number of graduate student fellowships from 18 to 24 and to increase student stipends from $12,000 to $18,000 per year.
The university plans to use the remaining $2.5 million to create the Helen Zell Fund for the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing, which will fund an annual creative writing lecture series and the Helen Zell Director of the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing. - Sherri...
