Blues plan upgrades to downtown campus.(News)(Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan Inc.)

Byline: Jennette Smith Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan included environmentally friendly and cost-saving features in a planned $40 million upgrade to its downtown Detroit campus. The company plans to raze a five-story parking deck at Congress and Beaubien streets and build a new nine-story parking deck with more than 1,800 spaces at Congress and the I-375 service drive.
The deck will be considered a "green building'' with a roof to be covered in sedum plants. The roof also will have an employee walking path. The roof will be part of a storm water management and landscaping irrigation system, said Ray Warner, director of facilities management for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
