Byline: Andrew Dietderich First and foremost, I admire L. Brooks Patterson for his foresight and enthusiasm that he has for Oakland County and its residents, but, as one of them, I have two words: please stop. Or how about "slow down''? As in, please stop or at least slow down plans to make all 910 square miles of Oakland County a Wi-Fi network.
Patterson, Oakland County executive, revealed the plans earlier this year and five or six pilot sites will go up by the end of the year. My reason against it is selfish. I don't want my home network screwed up. I pay $19.95 a month for a DSL line that I access without wires using my laptop through an 802.11b wireless network, giving me speeds of about 11 megabytes per second. Installing it couldn't be easier....
