Byline: Terry Kosdrosky While Delphi Corp.'s hourly workers are bracing for cuts in jobs, wages and benefits, salaried workers won't be immune from layoffs as the supplier reorganizes in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Delphi has said it wants to shut several plants in the U.S. One United Auto Workers local in Indiana reported that Delphi proposed closing 25 of its 44 manufacturing plants in the U.S.
When the company closes plants, the number of administrative and technical workers that make up much of the company's employment in the Detroit area will dwindle as well. In fact, Delphi has few manufacturing jobs in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Washtenaw counties.
