32 firms seek refund of school tax; But business leaders back levy renewal.

Byline: Sherri Begin Top leadership at some of Detroit's largest employers supports a ballot proposal that would renew an expired tax on nonhomestead properties. But individually, at least 32 Detroit companies are asking the state's Tax Tribunal to grant them refunds of the taxes that were collected illegally from them by the city after the 18-mill tax expired at the end of June 2002.
They include Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Buhl Building L.L.C., Detroit Edison Co., Michigan Consolidated Gas Co., New Center Development Inc., One Detroit Center L.P., One Woodward Avenue Associates L.L.C., Target Corp., Thyssen Krupp Steel N.A., Walgreen Co., and 1155 Brewery Park L.L.C., of which Crain Communications Inc. is a partial owner.
