State offers free seminars on SUTA dumping laws The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency is offering free employer seminars on 2005 laws designed to crack down on State Unemployment Tax Act, or SUTA, "dumping.'' The laws include provisions that prohibit business transfers or acquisitions made solely to obtain a lower unemployment rate, and prescribe fines and other sanctions for knowingly violating the laws.

Detroit seminars are scheduled Feb. 23 and Feb. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Cadillac Place, 3044 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit. Employers can register by faxing the agency at (313) 456-2910.
