State woos suppliers at SAE; Wants takers for plants Delphi will close.(Society of Automotive Engineers)(Delphi Corp.'s plans for restructuring)

Byline: Amy Lane Be a hero. Bring a manufacturing plant to Michigan. If you can't do that, please buy one of Delphi Corp.'s. It's a light note in a serious effort state officials are making to woo business investment to jobs-hungry Michigan and to sites that include six plants scheduled to be sold or closed by Delphi.
Well before Delphi announced its restructuring plan and the noncore product lines it was exiting, state officials had been working to try to keep Delphi plants open, even if under new ownership. And last week's 2006 SAE World Congress was another opportunity to promote Delphi locations and other sites. Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Jim Epolito, president of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., were among those who met with auto suppliers...
