Byline: Katie Maurer Thomas Linsmeier, chairman of the accounting department at Michigan State University, has been appointed to the Financial Accounting Standards Board. FASB is a private-sector board that establishes standards of financial accounting and reporting, which govern the preparation of financial reports.

The standards are officially recognized by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The Financial Accounting Foundation, which oversees FASB, is responsible for selecting members for the board.
