Byline: Robert Ankeny The Barden Cos., owned by Detroit entrepreneur Don Barden, passed the $500 million mark last year, vaulting 47th to 31st in revenue on Crain's Private 200 List. Now Barden looks to push that figure higher, perhaps past the $1 billion mark. He awaits word on his bid for a license to build a $400 million slots casino in Pittsburgh, where he is one of three finalists.
Barden's purchase of Trump Indiana Inc. gave him both casino boats in Buffington Harbor at Gary, Ind., accounting for some of the revenue boost. HisMajestic Star Casino starts construction this summer on an additional hotel and 72 condo units on his 349-acre site.
