Atlas Oil CEO Simon named to Michigan Biodiesel board.(News)

Crain's Detroit Business, August, 2006

Byline: Anjali Fluker Sam Simon, founder and CEO of Taylor-based fuel distributor Atlas Oil Co., last month was elected to the board of directors for Michigan Biodiesel L.L.C. Simon, one of seven board members, also is among 72 individual investors in the company's $7.5 million biodiesel plant in Bangor, which is expected to open this fall.

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel created mostly from soybeans, but can also be made from oils such as used restaurant grease. The fuel produced will run in nearly any diesel engine without any modifications and burns cleaner than regular diesel fuel. The Bangor plant will use soybean, sunflower and corn oil as well as animal fats and recycled restaurant grease to make biodiesel, according to a news release.
