Medstat acquisition may bring more jobs.(MEDSTAT Group Inc. acquires Solucient L.L.P.)

Byline: Michelle Martinez Medstat's parent company's announcement last week of its plans to buy Solucient, one of its main competitors, will give it a jump-start toward a major goal: to expand its presence among hospital providers. Medstat is owned by Thomson Corp., an $8.4 billion business-data empire based in Stamford, Conn.
But the buy will be integrated into Ann Arbor-based Medstat. "This strengthens our position,'' said Carol Diephuis, executive vice president of Medstat. "This (acquisition) gives us a lot richer set of expertise, resources and data.'' It won't be clear how many of Solucient's 500 employees Medstat will move to Ann Arbor from Evanston, Ill., or how operations might expand, until after the deal closes around the end of the year,...
