Akebono may be looking at Delphi brake business With huge chunks of Delphi Corp. up for sale, a Japanese parts maker is window-shopping for Delphi's distressed brake operations. Two sources told Automotive News last week that Akebono Brake Industry Co. Ltd. is interested in Delphi's brake business.

Akebono is one of Japan's largest brake designers and component makers. It supplies automakers and several tier-one suppliers. Carl Lay, an Akebono North America spokesman, said he had no knowledge of company interest in Delphi's brake operations. Delphi spokesman Brad Jackson declined to comment. Delphi's brake business generated about $2.26 billion in 2005 sales from plants in Saginaw and Dayton and Sandusky, Ohio, according to Delphi's Chapter 11 filings....
