Stem cell news gives Aastrom short boost Shares of Ann Arbor-based Aastrom Biosciences Inc. ran up last week when news broke that the U.S. House of Representatives was debating whether to approve embryonic stem cell research. There's just one problem: Aastrom doesn't do embryonic stem cell research.

Aastrom (Nasdaq: ASTM) is a research and development company that is developing ways to repair bone breaks and fractures using adult stem cells. Even so, the company once again cashed in on the embryonic hype, attracting investors as shares increased from $1.45 at end of Jan. 5 to a high of $1.58 on Jan. 8.
