Deal - or no deal? M&As rose in 2006, but wait continues for some that were expected.(Focus)

Byline: Brent Snavely Acquisitions were up in 2006, but many of the most anticipated deals are still either underway or just didn't happen. Last year both began and ended with speculation about who would eventually own Delphi Corp., Collins & Aikman Corp., and the former Visteon plants that comprise Automotive Components Holdings L.L.C., and Visteon Corp.
The year also began with drama building about the biggest potential deal of them all: Kirk Kerkorian's then 7.8 percent stake in General Motors Corp., which grew to 9.9 percent in January and evolved into merger talks with Nissan Motor Co.
