Byline: Sherri Begin Pfizer for many years has contracted directly with Michigan's three largest research universities for research. While Michigan State University and the University of Michigan are confident those relationships with Pfizer will continue, Randal Charlton, Wayne State University's new entrepreneur in residence, believes the move out of Ann Arbor will reduce the amount of research the universities secure in the future.

"It would be foolish for the research community to pretend that we will not face an additional challenge with (Pfizer's) move,'' Charlton said. "We'll have to prove ourselves as good as universities near their headquarters ... and their R&D centers in California and Europe.'' WSU has had research contracts totaling $4.5...
