Environmental group: New power plants not needed.(News)

Byline: Amy Lane A report issued Wednesday by a statewide environmental group calls on Michigan political leaders to reject new proposals for Michigan coal-fired or nuclear power plants, and says the state can meet its energy needs in cleaner, more efficient and economically optimal ways. The report by Ann Arbor-based Environment Michigan says Michigan "does not need and should not pay for'' coal-fired or nuclear plants to meet its electricity needs, and should instead pursue energy efficiency and renewable energy resources to satisfy demand.
