Telecom expansion drives hiring binge; Comcast to add 500 people as competition heats up.

Byline: Amy Lane After adding more than 500 people in Michigan in 2006, cable provider Comcast Corp. is planning to hire 500 more this year. Most of the hires are in Southeast Michigan. Technicians who install service and call-center representatives who work with customers are among the jobs Comcast is looking to fill, to meet demand for existing and new residential products like local-phone service and to support intensified efforts to sell small and medium-sized businesses bundled video and high-speed Internet, potentially joined by phone service later this year.
