Ice cream-making ends, but warehouse jobs seem safe.(Dean Foods Co.)

Byline: Brent Snavely The local heritage of Stroh's will continue to melt away in April when Dean Foods Co. ceases production of Stroh's Ice Cream at its plant off Gratiot Avenue in Detroit, but the plant's former owner predicts its warehousing and distribution jobs are safe. Dallas-based Dean Foods (NYSE: DF) said Wednesday that recent acquisitions gave it more production capacity than it needed, so production of Stroh's, Melody Farms, Mooney's and Nafziger ice cream brands will be moved to another plant and 29 jobs will be cut.
