Byline: Andrew Dietderich The possibility of losing state approval for six operating rooms led the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute to drop plans to build a new hospital on the Detroit Medical Center campus in favor of buying St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital from St. John Health. The letter of intent was signed Thursday.

In an interview Wednesday, Karmanos CEO John Ruckdeschel said the cancer center's Certificate of Need for the operating rooms requires that it submit plans to the Michigan Department of Community Health for six operating rooms in its current location by July 20.
