WASHINGTON - Product liability reform advocates are optimistic that they can beat the clock and get a modest, compromise product liability reform bill to President Clinton before Congress adjourns in the fall. The White House reached agreement with Sens. Slade Gorton, R-Wash., and John D. Rockefeller IV, D-W.Va., on a mild reform measure last week.
The two senators sponsored a product liability, reform bill that won the backing of the Senate Commerce Committee last year. The House has not yet taken up the matter during this Congress, a fact that makes swift Senate action more important, say supporters.
