WASHINGTON-The Senate is expected to vote today on whether to invoke cloture to allow formal debate to proceed on a bipartisan bill designed to provide businesses with some protection against liability stemming from the Year 2000 computer problem. The bill, which is backed by a broad coalition of businesses and trade groups, is a revised version of S.
96, a bill drafted by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz. S. 96 won the approval of the Commerce Committee on a strict party line vote in March but underwent amendment to draw Democratic support. In the process, Sen.
