DISTRIBUTION CHANGES FORESEEN.(International Insurance Society annual seminar in Berlin)

BERLIN-Rapid changes in distribution channels spell a changing-though not necessarily diminished-role for brokers, according to several speakers at the International Insurance Society Inc. annual seminar. IIS Chairman Kees Storm, who also is chairman of Dutch insurer AEGON N.V., kicked off a debate by saying that ``intermediaries will remain important, but they'll have to change.'' One key issue in distribution is the increasing interest in e-commerce.

Claude Bebear, chairman of Paris-based AXA Group, said: ``We'll still need intermediaries, but more sophisticated intermediaries. . . .It's impossible to define everything with e-commerce.'' Use of the Internet and e-commerce for conducting insurance business will increase but...
