Big Three automakers to offer benefits to same-sex partners DETROIT -- The Big Three U.S. automakers have decided to provide domestic partner health care benefits to their U.S. employees. Although the coverage will vary, all three companies will offer health care coverage to any same-sex partner who has had a committed relationship with an employee for at least six months.
The benefits will begin on August 1. The move, announced jointly last week by the three companies -- DaimlerChrysler Corp., Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. -- follows their commitment last year to study the issue with the United Auto Workers as part of a collective-bargaining agreement.
