Human resources managers could provide important help in the early stages of corporate mergers and acquisitions, but they typically are not involved until later, when problems are difficult or impossible to overcome, a study by consultants with Towers Perrin concludes. While mergers involve a range of employee benefit and other ``people'' risks, from underfunded pension plans to clashes in corporate culture, most human resources professionals take a role only after deals are made and companies begin to integrate their operations, according to Jeffrey A.
