Lawmakers and regulators must resist the temptation to overreact to the collapse of Enron Corp. or risk undoing the good accomplished by the modernization of federal financial regulation. That was the message delivered by participants in a forum in Washington on developments in the financial services marketplace since enactment more than two years ago of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act.

The forum was part of a Feb. 21 event sponsored by the New York-based Insurance Information Institute and the Washington-based Financial Services Roundtable.
