Byline: ALLISON REYNOLDS Insurer groups have had a somewhat disappointing year in terms of their efforts to promote various litigation reforms, but their hopes have not been dashed on all fronts. One key issue for insurers-reform of the asbestos litigation system-has proved particularly frustrating, with many insurers initially endorsing a Senate reform proposal but then reversing course after the details of the program changed in committee.

In addition, efforts to enact medical malpractice reform-another cause insurers have ardently supported-ended for the time being when senators failed to bring the measure to a full vote. But insurer groups remain hopeful that this year will see meaningful reform of the class-action system, with such proposals still...
