Time to push for changes.(insurance industry tort reforms)

SO MUCH TO DO, and at last a chance to do it. The Congress chosen in last week's elections appears to be among the most amenable to tort reform in history. Items that have topped tort reform wish lists for so long-class action reform, medical malpractice liability reform, asbestos liability reform-now seem much closer to reality.
Other risk management issues, such as extension of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act through the end of 2007, may also get attention. The question is where Congress should be urged to begin. We'd suggest that two items fall under the general category of first things first. One is TRIA extension; the other is class-action reform. Efforts to extend TRIA need to be taken up as early in the session as possible. Every day that goes by...
