Title insurance scandal won't shake captive industry.(News)(First American Title Insurance Co)

Byline: GLORIA GONZALEZ SACRAMENTO, Calif.-While recent allegations of improper reinsurance arrangements between title insurers and noninsurance entities will likely mean the end of these types of reinsurance captives, the scandal is unlikely to have an impact on the captive insurance industry in general.
California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi issued subpoenas to two title insurers Feb. 22 as part of a multistate investigation of reinsurance arrangements in the title insurance industry. Mr. Garamendi said he is investigating Jacksonville, Fla.-based Fidelity National Title and Richmond, Va.-based LandAmerica Financial Group Inc. for their alleged participation in title reinsurance schemes.
