XL buys casualty business from Argonaut.(XL America Inc., Argonaut Insurance Co.)(Brief Article)

Byline: ROBERTO CENICEROS STAMFORD, Conn.-XL America Inc. has agreed to buy a substantial portion of Argonaut Insurance Co.'s U.S. risk management book of business. Stamford, Conn.-based XL America, a unit of XL Capital Ltd. in Bermuda, will immediately begin offering quotes to selected Argonaut clients, according to an XL statement.
To ensure a smooth transition during renewals, XL said that Argonaut clients will continue to have access to San Antonio-based Argonaut's claims management and loss control services. Joseph Harris, XL America's chief casualty underwriter for U.S. Risk Management, will lead the company's transition team, said Dennis Kane, XL America executive vp.
