Byline: Joanne Wojcik NEWARK, N.J.-The Leapfrog Group and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey are collaborating on the nation's first statewide pay-for-performance project that will provide financial rewards and public recognition for high-quality, efficient care. All of the state's hospitals are eligible to participate in the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program, which will cover a three-year period and focus on five clinical areas representing approximately 33% of admissions and 20% of inpatient expenditures for commercial payers.
The clinical areas are coronary artery bypass graft; percutaneous coronary intervention; acute myocardial infarction; community-acquired pneumonia; and deliveries/newborn care. Alternatively, New Jersey hospitals can...
