Old Navy eyes lucrative port on State St. (Old Navy Clothing Co.; State Street Store Inc.)

Gap Inc.'s Old Navy Clothing Co. store slated for the Loop is likely to put wind in State Street's sails. While Old Navy won't be the first national retailer to take a stake in what was once the city's primary shopping district (Filene's Basement, Toys 'R' Us, and T. J. Maxx are already there), the San Francisco-based clothing retailer could draw shoppers from all over town and surrounding suburbs.

That's because the Old Navy planned for the southeast corner of Washington and State streets will be more than a discount jeans store and, if it enjoys the success of its New York cousin, will become a tourist destination.
