Revenues slow and its stock gets pummeled; an '$80-million disappointment' With engines smoking from a year in the corporate fast lane, Andrew Corp. is stopping for repairs. Its growth slowing from 1996's torrid pace and its stock price down by one-third this year, the manufacturer of cable, antennas and other equipment for cellular telephone systems is scaling back - cutting its workforce 7%, exiting ancillary businesses and concentrating on its core segment.

Last year, revenues surged 20% on a wave of orders from customers building new wireless telephone systems called personal communications services (PCS) to compete with established cellular operators.
