Plastics firm sets sights on industry giant When Chicago's Selfix Inc., a maker of plastic hooks and bathroom accessories, changed its name in February to Home Products International Inc., executives sent a clear signal that the company intends to diversify. Home Products has begun to do just that.

In March, the company acquired Tamor Corp. of Leominster, Mass., a maker of plastic home storage and organization products, notably laundry baskets. With $76 million in 1996 sales, privately held Tamor was about twice the size of Home Products. More deals are in the offing, promises ...
