STEVEN R. STRAHLER All through business school, I wanted to start a business. Going the Fortune 500 route never really appealed to me. After I got my degree in 1980, I started a company with my roommate, Kurt Hanson, doing market research for radio stations. I did that for a couple of years, mainly to see what getting a business off the ground was all about.

I really didn't have an interest in a radio career. That was Kurt's passion. About the same time, I became familiar with Warren Buffett from a book called 'The Money Masters' by John Train. It's a terrific book. I went back and read all the Berkshire Hathaway annual reports and got very interested in securities analysis.
