Local biotech companies got a lift during May as investors rewarded signs of progress in new products. After it announced its second consecutive profitable quarter and a medical journal endorsed a product it makes for breast cancer treatment, Downers Grove-based Vysis Inc. saw its stock-which in the previous 52 weeks rarely cracked $10-surge 66% to $19.22, according to Colorado-based CNet Investor.
``Basically, the market is seeing a company deliver on what it said it would deliver,'' says Vysis President and CEO John L. Bishop. Vysis was the second-best performer during the month, behind Lincolnshire-based Aksys Ltd., whose share price jumped 83% to $11.85.
