Byline: H. LEE MURPHY The big airlines serving O'Hare International Airport are losing money, raising fares, slashing pay, eliminating meals and dropping travel agent commissions. Amid this distress, growing numbers of small business travelers are bypassing the world's busiest airport for a gentler option: the discount carriers at smaller Midway Airport on Chicago's Southwest Side.
Many big corporations negotiated high-volume discounts with American, United and Delta on flights from O'Hare and remain joined at the hip with the major carriers. The small business traveler has no such allegiances.
