Amid this distress, growing numbers of small business travelers are bypassing the world's busiest airport for a gentler option: the discount carriers at smaller Midway Airport on Chicago's Southwest Side.

Many big corporations negotiated high-volume discounts with American, United and Delta on flights from O'Hare and remain joined at the hip with the major carriers.
