Ferguson took a detour and ended up handling billions of dollars a year as treasurer for one of the world's biggest consumer products companies. Ms. Ferguson, who grew up in Hyde Park, was a psychology major at Yale University on a pre-med track that would have taken her in the same direction as her father, an internist, and her mother, a nurse.
